About Me
My name is Tim Dooley. I was born with cerebral palsy and live independently in an apartment in upstate New York.
I grew up using computers and augmentative communication devices. I used DynaVox devices and had a special device built for me. Now, I use an iPad to speak and have a communication app called TouchChat. The iPad is the easiest and more flexible than speaking devices in the market now in my opinion. Those specific devices were great for the time before iPads. I also was a spokesman for AAC and went all over the country.
I worked for the DynaVox company, a manufacturer of speech generating devices being a speaker for them. At the headquarters was where I met my girlfriend who was also a representative. When we saw each other, it was instant love. We lived in different states so we kept the long-distance relationship going for 5+ years with traveling to each other and using Skype. Our story was in newspapers. Fast forward a couple of years, we are still together.
When traveling with DynaVox, I took traveling as a hobby. I went on a Caribbean cruise. I got out on sandy white beaches in the Caribbean. I traveled Maine to Florida to California. I go to the famous Las Vegas and play in poker tournaments.
I have used speaking computers most of my life and have over 20 years experience; not only with computers, but with computerized augmentative and alternative speaking devices as well. Through these experiences I became interested in web design. So, I dove into the online world and took courses in college to become a certified web designer.
Besides designing websites, I am a keynote speaker of augmented and assistive communication devices. I give presentations which show that disabled, and non-speaking people can not only communicate independently but can reach any goal they desire.
