AAC Experience
I have used various electronic talking devices for most of my life. As an adult, I gave presentations throughout the country working as a representative of the DynaVox company. I worked for them at trade shows demonstrating their devices. I presented papers and speeches at conventions and professional meetings.
I have been speaking about augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) around the USA since I was 8 years old. I have traveled to Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, and Pennsylvania to name a few states. In Michigan, I got together with John Eulenberg at the Artificial Language Laboratory at Michigan State University where I had my own device built for my use. The device was called The Tim Dooley System. The computer hung on the back of my wheelchair. It was accessed by a 64 position detente joystick mounted on my pummel. The LED display had only 24 characters, not like the large screens we have today. I spoke in Michigan and at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City using that device.
Most recently, I have been speaking to college students who study speech therapy and disabilities. Audiences say my presentations are eye opening, inspiring and helpful in understanding disabled people out in the world. After listening to my presentations, audiences see disabled people differently. I would be happy to speak to your group around Kingston, Albany and New York City. Contact me, and we can discuss your needs.
